How to remove the “AI info” label on Instagram
Instagram pinned “Made with AI” under your image and you want it gone? The label is triggered by two things: data written inside the file itself, and Meta's own automated image analysis. This guide deals with the first one — the part you fully control — and is honest about the second.
Why the label shows up
- The file confesses. AI tools and many editors stamp machine-readable tags into
the image on export: C2PA “Content Credentials”, IPTC “Digital Source Type”
(
trainedAlgorithmicMedia), XMP editing history. Instagram reads those fields and applies the label automatically. If you edited in Photoshop, Lightroom, Canva or an AI app — the tags usually ride along without you ever seeing them. - Invisible watermarks. Generators like Google's Imagen bake SynthID into the pixels themselves. Screenshots and re-uploads don't fully scrub those.
- The platform remembers. If a media URL was already labeled once, reusing it can carry the label even on a clean copy.
- Meta's classifier. Their own model can judge a photorealistic image as AI-generated from the pixels alone — that happens independently of your file.
- Third-party AI services. Server-side tools (background removers, enhancers, upscalers) sometimes append their own provenance tags to the file they hand back.
The fix: clean the file before you post
- Save the exact file you plan to post — not a screenshot of it (screenshots throw away quality for nothing).
- Open Unflag and toss the file in. The “AI wipe” tool deletes C2PA, XMP, IPTC and EXIF metadata plus hidden trailing data — and puts back the original compressed pixels unchanged, so nothing visibly moves.
- Cautious? Turn on Recompress mode: a fresh encode also blurs invisible watermarks. Not lossless, but a solid extra layer.
- Download and post as usual. Instagram reads the fresh file and finds nothing to tag from metadata.
Honest limit: if Meta's pixel classifier decides the image looks AI-generated, the label can still appear even on a perfectly clean file. Cleaning removes the automatic metadata triggers — it doesn't argue with a computer's opinion about your pixels.
Already posted? Two options
- What's this label? — tap “Why am I seeing this label?” under the image. If it's wrong, report it from there. Creators can also correct wrongful “AI info” flags in the post's AI-info view.
- The clean repost — delete the post, clean the file with the tool above, post it fresh. Slowest option, most reliable result.
One rules note, seriously
If your image really is AI-generated and photorealistic enough to be mistaken for a real person or real event, Instagram's rules ask you to keep the disclosure — the label exists to stop deepfake-style confusion. This tool is for creators who don't want their own work mislabeled, not for passing synthetic media off as real news. Your call carries the consequences.
Try it — takes about 10 seconds
Drop your file into Unflag. It runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded, the pixels don't change, and the file comes back without a single AI tag.
